Hello, I'm Biljana

I am a creative individual that is passionate about handmade items.

I have shown interest for this type of work when I was very young. I think I was about 5 years old when I asked my grandmother to teach me to knit. Later on, my mother got her new sewing machine and started to sew dresses for my Barbie dolls. I remember how patient they were and how much they enjoyed doing embroidery, crochet, knitting, and sewing. Watching them, gave me desire to learn to do more practical and handy work myself. One of the biggest joys for me was to make something and then show them or just give them as a present. I remember that one of the biggest victories was when I showed them what I have done and they thought that I actually bought it or that I copied drawings that I actually drew for them.

Fast forwards 20 years later when I finished my school of design and Academy of Fine Arts I got more ideas how I can use all my skills in more practical way (not just for my Barbie dolls). Working in a fashion industry I learned that all handwork could exists in a new form, how it can be more fun and how it can be mixed and matched differently.

One day I wanted to make something great for the most amazing person I know and after little bit of thinking my first quilt was born. I put all my free time, I passed so many sleepless nights but the look on her face once she got it was precious.

After that, one by one quilt was made - first mostly for my friends’ newborn babies, their friends, cousins, and then the neighbors saw it and asked if I could make something for their babies. Most of the people wanted something personal and handmade but did not have the time to prepare something for their loved ones. I was more than happy to create something new with the time and enthusiasm I had and with all my passion and dedication. Little by little, my loved hobby became my job. I liked people I met. Usually they are few months old so what not to love?

All those tiny persons deserved something special and personal made just for them, so I came up with the philosophy that every child should have something unique from me and I have never done the same quilt twice. Even if the pattern is the same, I have never used same color palette.

This job brought back all that sweet childhood memories of a little clumsy girl that became skilled woman. I love what I do, I'm the happiest when I create and one of the best things is that it challenges me to learn more, make more, create more and become better in what I do. I’m not seeking perfection; I’m just enjoying the journey.

Here on this blog I would like to share my creative process - starting from choosing fabrics all the way to the finished product along with some personal thoughts and hope that some of you will wish to have something handmade, personal and unique from me.
